Falun Info — Falun Gong: In Their Own Words
Levi Browde, executive director of the human rights organization Falun Info, contacted Magnason Film to produce, write, shoot, and edit a short social media-length documentary that tells the story of the Chinese meditation practice Falun Gong. The biggest challenge was to combat over two decades of propaganda spread by the Chinese Communist Party about the peaceful practice. We decided to take a personal, story-based approach. We interviewed 15 Falun Gong practitioners from upstate New York, seven of whom were included in the film. They shared their own stories about the practice, the benefits of Falun Gong, and why they engage in human rights work. We shot with two cinematographers, including drone shots of the park. It’s been translated into multiple languages and has received high praise from investigative journalists involved with Chinese human rights.
