Gao Rongrong was a 37-year-old accountant at an art college in Shenyang, China with a radiant smile and joyful disposition. But in 1999, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) launched a brutal, nationwide campaign to persecute practitioners of Falun Gong, a Buddhist meditation practice. The CCP arrested, imprisoned and tortured Gao simply for her spiritual belief, Falun Gong.
FalunInfo hired Magnason Film to write, edit, and do sound design for the piece. We were only given a couple of still images and had to find archive footage to help tell her story. The video has since been translated into 20 languages and viewed by hundreds of thousands of people.
